Current Exhibition: "RULE PROVING EXCEPTIONS"

Currently captivating visitors is "RULE PROVING EXCEPTIONS," a compelling solo exhibition by the exceptionally talented artist ALLAIN HABLO, running from February 24 to March 7, 2024. This profound exhibition delves into the intricate philosophical and legal concept encapsulated by the Medieval Latin proverb, "Exceptio probat regulam in casibus non exceptis," which translates to "the exception confirms the rule in cases not excepted." This ancient phrase, famously employed by Cicero in his defense of Lucius Balbus in 56 B.C., elegantly underscores how an exception, rather than invalidating a rule, can paradoxically affirm its significance and strength in other contexts. Allain Hablo masterfully translates this intricate idea into his latest collection, utilizing distinctive and innovative artistic techniques. He creates compelling texture by skillfully scraping away layers of paint and forming precise rectangular shapes, often defined by horizontal lines, visually representing the subtle yet powerful essence of an exception.
