Dairy Queen (DQ) is an American chain of soft-serve ice cream and fast-food restaurants. The soft-serve mixture was first developed in 1938 by "Grandpa" McCullough, his son Alex, and John Fremont. The chain has used a franchise system to expand globally. From ten stores in 1941, it grew to 100 by 1947.
Their popular item is the Blizzard which is soft-serve mechanically blended with mix-in ingredients like pieces of cookies, candy, brownies, or sundae toppings. It has been a prime on the menu since it was introduced in 1985, a year in which it sold more than 100 million Blizzards.
DQ® restaurants are independently owned and operated franchised locations that have served customers for over 70 years. The independent franchise operators of DQ® restaurants and their employees, together with International Dairy Queen Corporation (IDQ), strive to provide customers with the best products and service possible.
