About San Juan De Dios Hospital

San Juan de Dios opened the first nursing school in the country in 1913 because of the need to open a nursing school that would train students in technical nursing service. They opened the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology course and Liberal Arts course in 1965.

It was changed into San Juan de Dios College after 60 years and added the course Medical Technology to the list of offered programs. They relocated the Hospital and College to Dewey Boulevard (now Roxas Boulevard) after the original hospital was converted into the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Intramuros on December 12, 1953.

San Juan de Dios Hospital and College became an educational foundation on April 17, 1991. During this period, the college began a new baccalaureate course, Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.

They opened Senior High School (Grades 11 and 12) program with strands of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), General Academic Strand (GAS), and Technological and Vocational Livelihood (TVL) in 2016. They introduced 2 new business courses, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, in 2019. The General Academic Strand (GAS) was discontinued permanently due to the huge number of classrooms.

San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation, Inc. (SJDEFI or SJ, formerly Hospital de San Juan de Dios started out as a hospital in 1578. The hospital is considered the oldest hospital in the Philippines. It is named after San Juan de Dios, a Portuguese-born soldier that turned health-care worker of Spain.

The staff and nurses at the hospital were rude and unprofessional. Terrible customer service. This hospital deserves a negative rating. Uneducated people have better manners at hospital than educated. It s not like this hospital, but it is well-known. The OIC of billing was very rude and arrogant. (

Hospital arrogant and greedy nurses esp. in ER. If you have a patient that requires immediate attention, don t come here. I would gladly give zero stars if it is possible.

Staff here is useless. I took my son there a while back because he was suffering from a cold and felt sick. The staff couldn t understand why I came. We moved to Protacio Hospital. I found it very enjoyable here. I will return to you if you have any complaints.

Although the hospital is old, the doctors and nurses are very friendly. My mom takes her chemotherapy sessions here. Dr Cornelio is very knowledgeable and professional. He was able to answer all my Mom's questions.

They have no telephone. All the options 1, 2, 3, 4, and so forth were not answered. I hope that the nuns' management will see how inefficient they are. SJDDEF Please improve the services you provide to the public. Fix your telephone handling.
