What is RESEARCH ETHICS REVIEW COMMITTEE RERC? A Research Ethics Committee REC makes decisions about the approval and implementation of proposals for research protocols. It protects the rights and safety of participants, promotes the integrity of data, and ensures the integrity of research data. The committee must be duly authorized and adhere to both national and international research ethic guidelines. In May 2003, the Cardinal Santos Medical Center Research Ethics Review Committee CSMC RERC replaced the Institutional Review Board IRB. This independent committee was established by Cardinal Santos Medical Center CSMC, under the vice president chief medical officer VP CMO.
The CSMC RERC is responsible for ensuring the safety and health of all human participants in research relating to health. It also provides public assurance about that protection. The CSMC RERC, in accordance to applicable international regulations, has the power to approve, request modifications to, or deny research protocols. It also monitors compliance with procedures that have been approved.
Protocols performed by Cardinal Santos Medical Center staff, residents, fellows, interns, and other medical professionals within the hospital premises and beyond. External investigators may submit protocols. Study to be done outside of CSMC. A site visit might be necessary.
Site visits may be required for industry-sponsored clinical trials CSMC RERC. It is guided by the international principles and processes expressed in the Declaration of Helsinki, published on-line by the World Health Organization WHO Standards and Operational Guidance for Ethics Reviews of Health-Related Research With Human Participants 2011, by the World Health Organization WHO International Conference on the Harmonization of Good Clinical Practice ICH - GCP Philippine Food and Drug Authority Regulations.
