About De La Salle University

DLSU was established in 1911 by the Catholic teaching congregation Brothers of the Christian Schools (FSC, from the Latin: Fratres Scholarum Christianarum). The congregation was founded as a community of consecrated laymen in 1680 by St. Jean-Baptiste de La Salle.

In 1901, three years after Spain gave up control of the Philippines to the United States, Americans made a new public education system as the medium of instruction. DLSU was granted the status of the university on February 19, 1975.

DLSU was an exclusive all-boys elementary and high school. In 1920, it started offering a 2-year Associate in Arts Commerce program and was discontinued in 1931 in favor of a Bachelor of Science in Commerce program. DLSU offers hundreds of graduate and undergraduate degree programs through its one school and seven colleges.

They also offer a degree in robotics and mechatronics, one of the first to offer such in the Philippines. Currently, DLSU has 11 research centers and 36 academic departments.

De La Salle University (Filipino: Pamantasang De La Salle or Unibersidad ng De La Salle), also referred to as DLSU, De La Salle or La Salle, is a private, Catholic coeducational research university run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila, Philippines.

BRIEF HISTORY - The history of DLSU Library dates back to July 1956, when the collegiate collections of both the High School and College Libraries were transferred to St. Joseph Hall. It was located on the second floor of this hall and had a 100-seat capacity reading room. In 1985, a library four-storey tall was constructed by the Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad. It received a generous donation from USAID, USAID alumni, and other benefactors.

The DLSU Library is now a network of libraries. Two satellite libraries were set up at Taft Campus to cater for specialized users. One in Makati City and one in Taguig. Three in Bi an, Laguna.

The Henry Sy, Sr. Hall was the new location for The Learning Commons, which is now known as The Main Library. Librarian
