The Liwasang Bonifacio, also known as Plaza Lawton, is a transport hub and city square in front of the Manila Central Post Office. In 1963, after the revolutionary leader Andres Bonifacio founded the independence movement of Katipunan during the Spanish colonial rule, historically known as the Plaza del Fortín was given its current name.
It is a popular site of demonstrations and protests organized by several leftist groups. It is one of four freedom parks in Manila where rallies and protests may be held without permission from local authorities.
Liwásang Bonifacio (Bo · ni · fás · yo) is located in Manila, between the Post Office buildings and the Manila Metropolitan Theater. It is close to the Pasig River and Manila City Hall. The shrine commemorates the national hero and founder and Supreme of the Katipunan Gat Andres Bonifacio. A bronze statue of Bonifacio stood in the square, with a fountain behind it.
