Just recently, we had the Kick Off Party for our company. It isn't a great place to party. It is not safe.


SMX Convention Center is a large establishment good for various functions and events. I have been here for an international convention in 2019, a book fair in 2022, and a pet expo or pet exhibit in 2023. Prices for every event varies and some events are even free. The place is spacious with a second floor. The air conditioning is excellent as the place can still be cold even with hundreds of people. There is a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf restaurant inside as well as bridge access to IKEA and the mall. I like this place.

I have been here three times. It was a great venue for events. You could feel the energy of an event you were attending.


I attended the Toast Wedding Fair at the SMX Convention Center earlier in the day. It was a wonderful experience.

I ve attended several fairs  conventions  and conferences  both for media and as an individual participant  It is the second largest convention facility in Manila  and the first private largest convention facility in the Philippines  only the Philippine International Convention Center  PICC  in Pasay  which is government run  is bigger  SMX is divisible into four main halls downstairs  and four halls also upstairs  Ushers will scan visitor badges to track visitor traffic  Wifi is available in the convention and plenary halls  the conference rooms on the side  when offered  Unfortunately  their main cafe  Caffe Bene  does not  which I find strange  SMX has also undergone a recent refresh in the last 18 months   first  to meet the culinary staging  production and storage requirements for Madrid Fusion Manila  which is the most technical show ever handled by SMX Manila  The refresh is also evident in the wall decorations and finishings  Parking near SMX is not the most convenient  there is a chronic lack of parking in SM Mall of Asia overall  especially on Friday evenings  Saturdays and Sundays  Your first bet should always be the covered underground lot to the left of the main entrance  After that  choose between the MOA Arena parking  the mall parking buildings  South and North   or the open lot facing SMX  In particular  parking at MOA Arena is finally adapting to the times  electronic payment stations are now there  if staff is not on hand to facilitate payment  You can also you the ePlus payment card system to tap your way in and out of the MOA Arena parking lot 

I ve only been to SMX Convention Center twice  once for a party and another for the International Book Fair  When I went here for a party  it was a pretty convenient place   it s big  with lots of room to move around comfortably  the restrooms are more than okay  and the full air conditioning made sure I didn t break a sweat  I didn t feel that crowded  which is great considering it was a big  loud college party  The sound system was amazing  The layout of the place makes it easy to go in and out  and there s lots of parking space for your car  The time I went for the International Book Fair  I was wowed by all the space that was taken up  For cases like that book fair where I can just show up in casual attire  SMX is a commute friendly place  with jeeps and FXs nearby  I got to just hop next door to SM MOA for when I got hungry too 

This place is associated with random memories for me  I have been here for events that are as different as night and day    for instance  my church s international gathering was held here in 2010 and it was barely large enough for the population  while I ve been here for grand book sales which seemed like heaven to me because of the sheer number of books that were available  Most oddly of all  my first time here was I believe in 2006 or 2007 when the Alicia Keys concert had to be moved here due to the weather conditions  It s large and impressive but it s no Araneta or Arena 

Ever since I ve moved to the city  I ve been here multiple times for a whole bunch of events  and I consider it the best events center in the metro  I ve been here for the Manila International Book Fair  for debuts and Christmas parties  and once for the Manila FAME  I love the place for events because  1  it s so accessible   there s a jeepney  FX  and bus terminal right beside SM MOA  and  2  speaking of SM MOA  SMX is right beside it  which means there s instant access to restaurants  shops and the cinema  when you re tired of the event  and  3  the place is great when it comes to managing foot traffic  which is why even if it s so freaking full  the place never feels claustrophobic 

I think there has yet to be another events and conventions center that can surpass what SMX has done in Manila  Before SMX  events were held in hackneyed and old complexes that didn t have the right configurations and atmosphere for certain events  When SMX was built  we were presented with an awesome venue that could morph into almost anything  I have seen such a wild variety of events here  from graduations  to fashion shows  trade fairs and conventions  our company Christmas party and the rock concert which followed after   and each one of those events had their own distinct character  Everyone was made memorable by the fact that with a little modification here and there  SMX s halls could be transformed into any event venue that will suit your needs  Its central location and ample parking makes it such a convenient place to hold big events  and it also doesn t hurt that it is right next to the giant mall complex  so you are never left wanting for anything at all  SMX has now expanded in various locations  such as in BGC and even in the SM City Center in Bacolod  and I m glad it s filling the gap where we don t have reputable venues to hold important and momentous occasions 

Trust SM to think of a business model that will generate revenue for them  The SMX Convention Center was a master stroke of genius  a convention center in the middle of what is rapidly turning into a complete entertainment hub  SMX is about as accessible as SM MOA is  which means it s highly accessible by public transportation  and just about any taxi would know how to get there  And its location ensures that no convention attendee will ever  EVER starve to death in there  Not when you have the Philippines  largest mall beside you  No wonder why it has become the convention center of choice of almost every single business or organization  A brilliant move  overall 

This place is THE convention center of the metro  and it is easy to understand why  Due to its close proximity to the Mall of Asia  access to it is easy as pie  and those going to SMX have a wealth of choices when it comes to food and entertainment  The convention center itself is a marvel  with a huge main hall  and smaller meeting rooms to the side and above the main hall My favorite event in SMX is the annual Manila International Book Fair  where the entire main hall is filled with books from all sorts of sources  It s bookworm heaven  and I make it a point to go every year and leave with bags and bags of precious books 

It s difficult to review SMX Convention Center if you ve seen it from several perspectives  First  as a party place  I d say it really rocks  The halls are big and spacious  They have great sound quality and there are accessible bathrooms for each hall  My husband s company had their Christmas party there for the last two years and the affair always felt so grand  Second  as a participant to several conventions  I think it really works well with coursing foot traffic and having a great space where big booths can be set up  I ve been to several events here from bookfairs  car shows to cosplay conventions  Finally  as a merchant  I am unfortunately not wowed by the foot traffic of the venue  I ve participated in a huge event  US embassy bazaar  that was relocated here that saw very little foot traffic and sales  I ve also worked for a company that sponsored a booth during a travel fair that barely had return on the investment  So for now  I give it three stars  I guess if I m going there as a participant  I like the place because it is accessible and the facility is great  But I won t join any bazaars or events as a paying merchant 

The first time I went to the SMX Convention Center  we got invited to this Penshoppe fashion show where Sean O Pry would be walking the runway  That experience alone could ve garnered five stars for this place  but for the sake of my credibility  I will review SMX itself PROS  SMX Convention Center is a really big space that can provide a venue for a variety of events   from fashion shows to wedding conventions  kiddie events to proms  even if the building itself is just a couple of floors  you can appreciate the high ceilings and the very expansive floor space  This may well be the official safe space for claustrophobics  Despite the huge area  it s still quite cool and well air conditioned CONS  Food concessions are pretty limited inside  but that may have something to do with the occasional food centered events  It may be a bit of a walk from the entrance to the parking  which is a hassle if it s a hot day  TL DR  SMX Convention Center provides clean  comfortable  and convenient venues for a whole variety of events 

Not only is SMX the site of many toy and anime conventions  it s also the home of my favorite annual music festival Bazooka Rocks  Imagine a huge hall packed with sweaty teenagers  some running in circles and shoving each other as a band plays on stage  and others lying down on the floor because they need a break from running and pushing and jumping That s what I look forward to every year  It helps that the bathrooms in the hall itself are clean and easy to find  thanks to the huge signs on the walls  and that the aircon is always as cold as it can get  If you need food  there s a cafe right outside the hall but still in the building  and the mall is just across the road  A great venue for great big events
