AMA Computer College was started in June 1981. They extended their services to a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. With just a few students in the first year of operation, the 600 students in 1983 drastically rose to 2,000 in 1985 on its first official Makati campus.
On August 20, 2001, AMA Computer College of Quezon City became AMA Computer University and was soon granted the University status by CHED. Other campuses were not accredited as it doesn't meet the requirements needed by the Philippine academic, regulatory body. AMACU has pre-school, elementary, and high school programs under St. Augustine International School (now AMA Basic Education).
