About Metropolitan Museum of Manila

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila, also known as the Met, is one of the major museums in the city, located within the BSP Complex. It bills itself as the country's premier museum for contemporary visual and modern arts by international and local artists.
It was established in 1976 and initially showed international artists to expose Filipinos to contemporary visual works in other cultures. It shifted its focus to local works and extended to more common people by offering bilingual exhibition texts and developing several outreach educational programs like symposia and workshops. Every Tuesday, the museum offers free admission.

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is one of the major museums in the Philippines. Today, the museum continues to embrace the philosophy that ART IS FOR ALL, being the first museum in the country to adopt a bilingual approach communicate with audiences while implementing multi-pronged vigorous education and community outreach programs.

About the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET): The Metropolitan Museum of Manila, one of the most important museums in the Philippines. The original purpose of the MET was to host international art exhibits. This goal was to increase the cultural exchange and expose Filipinos more widely to foreign visual arts. It redefined its mission to cultivate Filipino pride in their own cultural and artistic heritage. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas BSP's valuable collection of Prehistoric Gold and Pottery, Colonial Hispanic Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila's growing contemporary and modern collections, were all built in 1986.

It was the first museum to embrace the philosophy of "ART FOR ALL", adopting bilingual exhibition texts and engaging in community outreach. The Metropolitan Museum of Manila, in collaboration with the BSP, has been refocused. It is now positioned as the center for Contemporary Art from Filipino and International Artists. The museum aims to enhance the Filipinos' sense of cultural and artistic heritage, from past to present, and to share that knowledge in modern global contexts.

The museum's wide range of current art programs and exhibitions reflect this multidimensional, borderless environment of scholarship and artistic expression as well as the global world that we live in. Through partnerships with partner organizations, the museum is able to reach different audiences and create off-site programs. These are some links

Now, the museum has been moved to BGC. The entire area is deserted and not an area you want to be stranded in.

The museum's working hours show how far the Philippines has come in the tourism industry. Not being open on Sundays or holidays is not an ideal policy for tourists and visitors. Most reviews of museums mention that only a few people visit at once.

Although I had the privilege of being allowed in for free, it seemed that it was charged at times. I didn t get to see the building but I did notice the coolness and air conditioning.
