About Polytechnic University of the Philippines (Main)

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines, also known for its acronym PUP, is a government educational institution governed by Republic act 8292, known as the Higher Educational Modernization Act of 1997. PUP is one of the Philippines' highly competent educational institutions. It is composed of the Board of Regents, Administrative and Academic Personnel, Students, various Organizations, University Officials, and the Alumni. PUP started as the Manila Business School (MBS) as part of the city school system under the Superintendence of C.A. O'Reilley.

It is a non-secretarial, public, non-profit institution of higher learning primarily tasked with harnessing the tremendous human resources potential of the nation. Last October 2004, PUP celebrated its centenary. Due to the government's combined effort and support, the PUP Community, and its benefactors, PUP will continue to be a partner in poverty alleviation and nation-building for the responsive, marginalized sector of society with quality and relevant education as a tool.

Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is a public educational institution that follows the Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997 and the Implementing Rules of Regulations of the Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Circular No. 4, Series 1997. PUP is one the most highly qualified educational institutions in the country. PUP Community consists of University Officials and Administrative Personnel as well as students, alumni, and various organizations. The Board of Regents is responsible for the governance of PUP. It exercises policy-making powers to fulfill the university's mission and programs.

An appointed President is responsible for the administration of the University. He is supported by an Executive Vice president and Vice Presidents in Academic Affairs, Student Services, Research, Extension and Development, Finance, and Administration. The Manila Business School MBS was founded as part of the City School System under C. A.

O Reilley is a training institution that responds to both the need for personnel to serve in government and private sector jobs. It was renamed the Philippine School of Commerce PSC in 1908 and combined with the Philippine Normal School PNS from 1933 to 1946. In 1952, Republic Act 778 changed the name of PSC to Philippine College of Commerce PCC. The Philippine College of Commerce PCC became a chartered university and is now called the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

This was made possible by Presidential Decree Number 1341, which was issued April 1, 1978 by the President of the Philippines. PUP is an institution of higher education that is public and non-sectarian. Its primary purpose, as a non-profit, educational institution, is to harness the immense human resource potential of the country by improving physical, mental, and material well-being. It promotes advanced research and leadership development in these fields.

The University also offers ladder-type, higher vocational and distance learning open universities system, as well as technical and professional programs for business, distributive arts, education, and social sciences in business, commerce and business administration. The University also takes measures to enhance the academic programs in other areas of study. It adopts a multitechnic education program to equip students with managerial skills, employable skills, and the ability to be creative, productive, and independent. PUP is open all year with two semesters as well as a summer.

The course as well as the campus determine the summer session. There are 1,483 faculty employed by the University, including part-time as well as full-time staff. A few full-time faculty also hold administrative roles. The University employs 707 casual and regular administrative staff who offer support services.

Two-thirds (or more) of faculty time is spent in teaching, while the other third spends their time researching and extending activities. Research is a major function of the University. It's a crucial component of both scholarship and teaching. PUP has received funding from both the government and private sectors for research in each of its years.

The largest university by student body is the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, which has more than 20 campuses. It is situated in Sta. Mesa, Manila is located in the heart of Manila. The environment around it is conducive to learning, despite this.

The majority of students are from the most economically disadvantaged sections of society. The University is committed to providing quality education that is responsive to students' needs. The Scholars of Nation Iskolar ng Bayan - this is the name we give our students. This is because tuition and fees are subsidized by the Philippine Government and non-governmental institutions. Over 100 students are from countries like China, Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar. Students are studying in undergraduate and graduate business, language and statistics courses, as well as education.

In summer, students from Korea visit PUP to study intensive English. Polytechnic University of the Philippines prides itself in being able to meet student needs. It has more than 20 campuses that make education more accessible. The ladderized system and the accreditation and equivalency program through the Extended Tertiary Educational Equivalency and Accreditation Program ETEEAP and the Nontraditional Systems Program NTSP were pioneered.

Offers a variety of educational options through over 60 undergraduate and graduate programmes. Offers weekend and evening classes. Provides a number of extensions services to the nation and the university. This University has been a success because of its leadership, its faculty, staff and students.

It has also produced countless graduates who have exceeded all expectations. PUP today is thriving and students enjoy unprecedented academic opportunities and upgraded college environments, state-of the-art technology and programs that are nationally and internationally recognised. PUP was celebrating its centenary in October 2004. The PUP has come a long way from the state it was a century ago.

The government, the PUP Community, and their benefactors have played a major role in this success. PUP with the collective effort will remain a partner for nation building and poverty relief in the marginalized section of society through quality education that is relevant, responsive and applicable.
