Baluarte de San Diego at Intramuros Manila is a majestic stone fort. Its huge medieval-style walls, made of large blocks, will make anybody feel safe and secure.
The baluarte had been breached and fallen in 1762 from the British forces. After the occupation it was restored only to fall again due to earthquake in 1863. Then it was once more destroyed from the Battle of Manila in 1945. The fort's most recent restoration work was completed in 1992.
Today in Manila the fort is being transformed into a tourist spot. A beautiful garden was built around the fort, with shaded walkways, fountains, old cannons and artillery and pieces of the preceding century showing.
The garden is well landscaped, The plants are arranged in cluster and more with Pergolas and walkways too. There is a bigger space and well manicured lawn. Really green grasses cover the open area like the golf courses nearby.
This could also be utilized for other functions like wedding venue for ceremonies and receptions.
It is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. Make sure to visit during dry season from November to April with a minimal admission.
