Opened in September 2008, SM City Marikina is the 31st SM Supermall built in the Philippines, and the 14th latest SM Mall built within Metro Manila, and it is the first shopping mall with a wi-fi connection.
SM City Marikina's main building is one of the largest structures in Marikina City, similar to SM Mall of Asia because of its modern interior and exterior designs and structures. The Mall was also called the "Mall of Marikina,", especially in nearby residences or villages.
It is a five-level building with a grand entrance, high ceilings, and an interplay of glass and steel, with modern Asian touches. Interiors have spacious areas with multicolored lighted ceilings with circle accents.
For the exterior of the Mall, it has more than a thousand parking slots, including provisions for motorcycle parking, a jeepney terminal for commuters, a 4-meter wide pedestrian overpass to and from the main mall area to the Santolan LRT station overpass to the Bus Bay 2 area. There is also an interlinked walkway, accessible even to the physically challenged.
