As a result, Binondo outgrew the other missions, evolved into a town, and became the center of Chinese integration into Manila's Hispanic, Christian society. Popularly known as Binondo Church, the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of San Lorenzo Ruiz was established by the Dominicans in 1596 and initially dedicated to Saint Gabriel the Archangel who became Binondo’s patron until the mid-19th century. The architecture and facade of this church are what I love about it. This church is located in the middle of Binondo and was once home to Fil Chinese Filipinos, who were practicing their faith. It had a ceiling decorated with human artworks of God and angels. This place is a favorite of mine because it makes me feel at home.
