Plaza de Roma is one of the two major public squares located in Intramuros, Manila. It served as the Plaza Mayor during the Spanish colonial era. It was then considered the center of the city where bullfights and other public events were held before it was converted into a garden.
In 1797 the garden was then converted into a park and renamed Plaza McKinley after the U.S. President William McKinley in 1901.
A monument of King Charles IV stands at the very center, an arm outstretched in a commanding pose, commemorates him for bringing the smallpox vaccine into the Philippines.
Small, scenic plaza-turned-park in 1797 with a fountain, monument & views of a grand cathedral.
