About Toyo Eatery

Toyo Eatery is a contemporary Filipino restaurant tucked away in the corner of Chino Roces Avenue in Makati. It’s helmed by Chef Jordy Navarra, who had previously trained at The Fat Duck in the UK and Bo Innovation in Hong Kong before opening Toyo Eatery in March 2016.

It is about how Chef Navarra draws inspiration from the local culture and heritage to create contemporary, often playful interpretations of Filipino cuisine.

Toyo Eatery offers both ala carte and tasting menu options. Chef Navarra’s tasting menus for a reasonable price. The Samples of the course tasting menu they serve are;  tomato meringue with ginataang langka amuse-bouche. Reminiscent of a French macaron, it dissolves in the mouth to reveal the Filipino flavors of jackfruit cooked with coconut milk. The kilaw of wild talakitok, lime, and sesame, it is Filipino fish ceviche.

A dish of tamban, malunggay, young corn, and Sichuan, deep-fried and dusted with finely ground Sichuan peppercorns. The dish of “relyenong” pusit with mustasa refers to stuffed squid made with mustard greens, coated with a slick black paste and Lugaw. It is rice porridge or congee, made with crab Roe and burnt kalabaza (squash) with coconut vinegar.

The restaurant is open Tuesday-Saturday from 6:00 pm-10:00 pm

Toyo Eatery is a Filipino Eatery that takes the essence of Philippine flavors, traditions and techniques and puts it in tune with quality products and a desire to make things nice.

Toyo Eatery is the best food experience that I have ever experienced. They focus on preservation and tradition by using local farmers to source their ingredients. They also promote the passing of these traditional recipes through education. The slow progress of FilipinX culinary renaissance in the West is due to Pinoy Pinay entrepreneurs and chefs ... see more

With a heavy heart, I give this rating 2 stars. I've tried many fine restaurants and can tell that the atmosphere and food were excellent. However the dishes themselves were disappointing. The aubergine was too difficult to consume and had too many textures. I also had to ask about the strawberry dessert. It was too sweet and too hard to eat.
